NAWAU - National Aviation Weather Advisory Unit NAWAU was formed in November 1982 to consolidate the Area Forecast and other programs into a central location. Staff of 15 mets brought a new national mission to the Kansas City forecast office. |

SELS the Severe Local Storms Unit The SELS unit resided in Kansas City from 1954 until creation of the SPC in 1995 and its subsequent move to Norman in 1997. |

RADU - Radar Analysis and Development Unit RADU was the workhorse unit that hand plotted the hourly radar reports and produced a coherent national facsimile map and support to the SELS desk. Unit evolved to SIGRAD in 1978 and SIGRAD ceased operation in 1987. |

MWCC - Military Weather Warning Center USAF unit formed in 1952 at Tinker AFB as the Severe Weather Warning Center, SWCC. The SWCC moved to Kansas City in 1956 - closed in 1961 and a new unit, the MWCC or Military Weather Warning Center, reopened in KC in 1964 Moved OMA in 1970. |
